Rainy Rainy Scotland

Hello readers, I have been failing at my blog and I'm sorry.

The weekend after I got back from Paris I went on the second field trip for Archeology.

On this field trip we stayed in the central Scotland area (Glasgow, Linlithgow, etc.) which was good because the weather was gross and going into the highlands would not have been so much fun.

Our first stop was the Cathedral. I had already been there, but it was interesting to hear a bit of the history.
We also got to go down and see St. Mungo's tomb and explore some of the little chapels around the perimeters of the buildings.

After the cathedral, we drove to a field that had once been occupied by the Romans. We could see the ditches they dug and the roads they built when they were trying to takeover Scotland.

At the front of the fort that used to be there, the Romans dug a lot of holes in the ground so that when people were approaching the fort, they would fall in them, thus slowing down their approach. It was raining (surprise surprise) when we were there, so we could see the holes pretty easily.

After the roman fort thing we got back on the bus and went to Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots. I was way excited about this because I'm way into Mary and the royal thing.

We looked at the structure of the building, the defenses around it, and some of the decorative features as well. It was cool to see where the Great Hall was and to go up to the top of some of the towers and try to imagine being the guards walking on these tiny little platforms. I would failed, big time, as a guard.

The final leg of our field trip was this hill thing where there were some old burials. The conservation people who worked on the burial site decided it would be a good idea to fix up the site to show all the different stages of burial practices that went on during Scotland thousands of years ago. Because of this there was a covered mount/tomb thing and cleared holes in the ground.
